If a fully breast-fed baby out of any reason (high temperatures, diarrhoea...) needs to refill liquids, baby water given by spoons is recommended.
From the 6th month, or from the age when your baby starts solids, he should start getting used to drinking out of a glass or a cup, first with your assistance, then by himself. Suitable alternatives of beverages are baby water, baby tea or fruit juices (in lower quantity, max. 150 ml per day). Beverages should not be sweet so as not to increase thirst and they should be of adequate temperature (not too hot and not too cold).
Why should a baby have a sufficient intake of liquids:
• he can be easily dehydrated • a liquid deficit can cause inner environment disorders, as well as fatigue and grumpiness
Recommended dose:
• younger babies 150 ml/ 1 kg of body weight • later on (around 1 year old babies) 100 ml/1 kg of body weight is sufficient • babies should drink more frequently in smaller quantities, let your baby drink whenever he shows interest and if he does not, offer him with liquids regularly
